Agate is the banded form of Chalcedony, a micro-crystalline variety of Quartz. It forms in nodules, growing from the outer walls inward, creating beautiful translucent banding. Older Agates may appear opaque and less banded due to weathering and natural transformations within the minerals. Agate is named after the Achates River (now known as the Dirillo River) in Acate, Ragusa Province, Sicily, Italy, the upper waters of which were an ancient source of Agate. Our high-quality Agate is mined directly from our Norcross-Madagascar (NMG) Agate Fields located in Ambarijeby, Madagascar. Our beautiful Agate is available in rough and tumbled, cut slices, and gorgeous carved pieces, including hearts, spheres, massage tools, skulls, animals, and more!
